Introduction

Two subspecies in BC:

1) Callipepla californica.brunnescens
2) Callipepla californica.californica

Introduced in the Okanagan Valley, southeastern Vancouver Island, and Saltspring Island in the Gulf Islands. Other introduced populations (e.g., Lower Mainland) all became extirpated. The subspecific designation of many California Quail populations in the province is unclear, but these two subspecies are likely responsible for the coastal and interior introductions, respectively.
